I had a similar problem with a list I run which is gatewayed to a
newsgroup, and I solved it by using self-moderation.

Self-moderation did not work before the changes Jim made to the gateway at
American University, but since it was changed so that posts appear to come
from the sender rather than "[log in to unmask]" it works really well.

The only problem is that it does involve a lot of work, and I guess that
Eric is pretty overworked already.
