Which is YOUR SMTP server, if a listserv message is distributed?

No, you are also sendining bitnet style addresses to listserv lists even
if all of the listserv recipients are in the internet, and your addresses
still appear as .bitnet:

is what I received from you. (in the french service messagerie renater we support .BITNET)

You also find uucp sites which can handle .bitnet ;-)

In the new O'Reilly sendmail book you find even a hind how you can
translate all .bitnet addresses to their equivalent internet addresses
in a sendmail configuration using the INTERNET LISTING file, i.e., the
:internet. tags. It seems that it is easier for Internet sites to
install this than for bitnet.

There are some approaches:

LISTSERV replaces the From: in the copy or copies of messages that is sent
to some SMTP,

all SMTPs use the :internet tag to replace ALL addresses,

all INTERBIT SMTPS use the :internet tag ..

all SMTPs connected to a LISTSERV ....

a site uses the internet name in it MAILER configuration, an never just

user at node.

Happy new year.
