I believe you can modify the templates to combine any farewell message
you've created as well as the "you have been..." message. Please note that
you will need to copy the text OUT of the FAREWELL message and remove it
from the template list. The text can be pasted into the "you have been..."
message. Unfortunately, this means that every time a list owner removes
someone, they will get the full farewell message.

You are mistaken. If someone subscribes -- or sends any other command --
they will get an output message. There is no way to suppress this,
because it is telling them in plain terms what has happened.
