the "go bg" command is very easy to confuse with "go -bg".
And you get no warning that you just used an invalid option
to start your service.

I hope you really mean
./go bg
as that would be correct. If you are actually invoking (starting) the
program with 'go .bg' then the server isn't actually starting in the
background. If you start the server in the foreground and then force
it to the background, the log won't be written.
