It's obviously not my place to comment if we refer to EARN-France; however,
I've seen Dominique's mail as a personal attack to Eric, so I'll reply anyway.

I considered to do the same with DEARNADM and I rejected it because of the
following reasons: a) if Eric had wanted German NADs (or LIAISON readers for
that matter) to reply,  he would have sent the survey  to these lists himself;
and b) I considered that even if only 25% of the German NADs replied, this
would very significantly bias the results of the survey, thus making it
unusable. This is apart from other problems which are mentioned below.

In my opinion if someone doesn't know whether he's on EARN or not he should
not reply to such a survey. Please note that this is not a universal survey
that everybody on earth will reply, so that noises like this one will not
affect the result, but a somewhat restricted survey (from what Eric says,
maybe he'll get 200 answers) -- and in such a survey some little errors can
significantly bias the results. Given the importance that Eric has decided to
attach to the results of the survey (and we should respect the fact that he's
somehow putting the future of LISTSERV on our hands, which he had no
obligation to do under any point of view), I can perfectly understand that he
doesn't like replies from people who don't even know to which network they
belong.

Two comments: nothing is clear now, since you have not offered us any copy of
Eric's supossedly 'nasty' mails, and therefore we have no means to judge how
nasty they were, and have to ressort to trust (in you or Eric) to decide
whether you're right; and I don't find it nice to kick off a person from a
list just because of a mail, even if it were nasty, since this is clearly an
act of censorship which does only befit an authoritarian structure, not a open
forum for free interchange and dialog. Finally: ALL NAD lists should be open,
so that people from other countries can send there if needed (German lists
are); and I do not like how this affaire has been presented to the network.

When sending this mail, my intention is not to open an argument about this
topic, but only to show that not everybody implicitly agrees with your
methods.
