I did ask support but they said it can't be done and no workaround - so that 
is why i am asking around.

I did try all three changes to no avail.

The log says:
14 Aug 2006 14:11:26 Processing file 0203 from [log in to unmask]
14 Aug 2006 14:11:26 -> Removing unwanted MIME message parts...
14 Aug 2006 14:11:26 -> Rejected:
* LISTSERV does not allow the distribution  of empty messages to a mailing
* list, because some users are unable to see the "Subject:" field from the
* original message.
14 Aug 2006 14:11:26 Sent information mail to [log in to unmask]
