I am not an expert, by any means, but the guidance I had gotten
on the SMTP_FORWARD's was that too many can be bad also.
- Also if you have the luxury of putting your SMTP_FORWARD
  on a remote host(s) you will be much happier. I have been
  told web performance will suffer if you have trouble moving
  your SMTP messages.

We use (2) remote smtp servers and run 2-3 smtp helpers to
each machine.
