In lieu of that, post a useful message / admininstrivia to the list from time to time and then deal with the "bounces" and/or "OOOs."  As appropriate, set errant subscriber to NOMAIL NOPOST or your ... 2).

Consider the activity of the list when doing so.  If you see the OOO Friday afternoon, and they are returning to work Monday, is it worthwhile to change them?
