I still don't understand WHY this particular number, which as several
have mentioned bears little resemblance to how many people actually see
the content, is so extremely important to you, as contrasted with a
simple daily summary like "as of noon today there were x subscribers" to
one or another list?

There is one other idea that may, or may not, be helpful to you - if
the subscriber who submits a message for distribution has the ACK
property set in their subscription options, they do receive an automatic
email from the server giving the count of recipients it was sent to.
Offhand I don't know if this count is "all subscribers" or "all
non-digest/non-index subscribers" or "all not-nomail subscribers" or
some variation of these - perhaps LSoft will step in here and clarify
the point.

As stated in my earlier message, I only need to know the distribution
count, not recipients. Our mandate states that we must have electronic
mail lists for new information posted to our website. One requirement is
to
track (among other things) the subscribers the message was sent to.
This can easily be found in the log or admin panels but I just wanted a
quick way to get the info and throw it into my database. I am going to
use the:
REV listname NOH SH command in a separate email to get the numbers
quickly.
