I would like to compile a list of any server that offers listserv
facilities either Bitnet-like or "elsenet-like".
My purpose is to form a list of this kind:
(sample entry:)
HOST NAME: Hudson Bay Submarine University
HOST ADDRESS: Hudson.Bay.Edu
REFERENCE: Mike Penguin [log in to unmask]
LIST SET-UP PROCEDURE: Only students and teachers at Hudson are
allowed to set up a list. Currently only
27 lists are served by Hudson host. Any
application to start a new list must be
submitted to M.Penguin. Topics must be
related to submarine life and studies.
SOFTWARE: Server program written by Frank Whale.
(other sample:)
HOST NAME: Altmark Communication Inc., Pogola, NU
HOST ADDRESS: altmark.com
REFERENCE: [log in to unmask]
LIST SET-UP PROCEDURE: Altmark offers all kind of Internet
facilities and services. Subscription
is 4$ per month for personal accounts.
additional 10$ per months are required
to start a mailing list. Topics are
free, although Altmark may refuse to
host lists that are offensive or constitu-
te a blatant violation of laws (no lists
about drug-dealing, smuggling, tax-fraud,
insider-trading, etc., etc.)
SOFTWARE: Server program is proprietory and is called
Kokkodrillo.
Such two samples, are, of course, pure fantasy. I strongly believe that a
public knowledge of sites and hosts where mailing lists can
be started will improve freedom in cyberspace.
Any help and suggestion is wellcome ! Please, if such a list of
listserv-facilities already exist do not hesitate to tell me. I do not want
to rediscover the wheel.....
