Here at UCD, we do the same kind of thing which Michael has described,
using LISTSERV, Rice MAIL, and a home-grown BBOARD EXEC, all on CMS,
of course.
 
LISTSERV manages notebook files for the lists in question,  BBOARD
links and accesses the minidisk for the user, and MAIL does the rest.
 
Of course, it's not useful for private lists.
