You're right. We have thought of it before and it's on our list of
future enhancements.

Why it isn't there yet: there are many, many possible enhancements we
could make. Each time we plan a new release, we have to sift through
the all the enhancement requests and decide which ones provide the
best value to effort ratio. Enhancements which provide high value for
little effort are no brainers and we just do them. Enhancements that
require a lot of effort have to be weighed against each other to see
which are the most important, and which ones can be done in the time-
frame we are projecting. The ones that provide little value for a lot
of effort are likely to stay at the bottom of the list for a long
time. I don't know off the top of my head where that one sits, but it
hasn't bubbled to the top yet.

The upcoming release of LISTSERV has (last time I checked - I'm sure
it's increased), 159 changes, of which over 100 were direct results
of customer requests. Unfortunately, this one is not among them.
However, your request does make a difference, and gives this feature
an extra nudge up in priority. I can't guarantee that it will make it
into the following release, because so many factors have to go into
these decisions of which enhancements to implement, and we are
constantly reshuffling our priorities as customer requests come in
and also as the Internet climate changes. For example, anti-spam
features have gotten a big boost in priority and are a major part of
the upcoming release. So, if you like, you could blame the spammers
for making us waste so much time fighting against them.
