...I started to look into this, and it is not all that simple :-(  If the
user is at the root directory, and issues a DIR, then that display will
show objects like "VM_UTIL".  If I modify the display, I have to make sure
they are doing a DIR of SFS (and not minidisk).  Then, what if the user
wants to CD to user-id(.191), when the current dir is SFS....gets pretty
messy.
 
     Perhaps a comprimise would be to set the default working dir for
anonymous to be that of LISTSERV's root, so that a sample novice user
login might look like this:
 
ftp ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu
VM TCP/IP FTP V2R2
Connecting to UBVM.CC.BUFFALO.EDU 128.205.2.1, port 21
