When using the Dynamic Query (DQL) method of sending to persons, LISTSERV is
not able to write or update to the DB or LDAP Directory. So, yes, to exclude
someone from future queries would require some change to the data in the DB or
LDAP directory (most likely not full removal, but often the setting of some
flag). But this must happen outside of LISTSERV.

So far, most uses of this technique come from membership organizations
(corporations, academic institutions, etc.) where receiving the "Important
Emails" is considered something like a 'condition of employment' so the concept
of unsubscribing simply does not apply. While there are no doubt some kinds of
emails which must go to everyone, there are others which are less
urgent/applicable, and for which a sub/unsub action of some kind should be
available. How this gets implemented in actuality is certainly a challenge.
