well vacation programmes are not necessarily bad...  and they do fulfil a
certain need.  I guess you must be refering to those not so good vacation
programmes or those not set appropriately.  For example you can setup the
vacation programme to only send one vacation reply per user that sends
you email, therefore avoiding the problem you mentioned below (receiving
a vacation answer everytime).  Also many vacation programmes will not
generate mail loops as they "know" when to stop sending vacation messages.

Mailing list software such as LSV do trap similar messages and hence
reduce the risk of mail loops by a significant amount! :)
