When a message is distributed, it is from the list it was posted to.

When a message is sent through a super-list, there is no reference to
anything about any of the sub-lists in the outgoing traffic.  All it
does is suck up the sub-list subscribers and unduplicate the resulting
collection of target addresses.

Being a subscriber to the super-list itself does have one particular
appeal: you may set your subscription to nomail and you will not receive
any super-list messages, regardless of any membership you might have in
the various sub-lists.
