TD>TS]WW>projected release date for OS/2 2.1 is?
TD>TS]My guess is COMDEX. There are a number of advantages of releasing it
TD>TS]then, and it looks like an attainable goal.

TD> I =really= hope they don't. What =I= feel is necessary for OS/2 to
TD> succeed is for it to be somewhat "idiot-proof". While all of us have

I'm not sure if it will ever be idiot-proof. DOS 5 is idiot-proof
because it's (relative to any modern OS) an idiot-OS. The only thing it
HAS to do is manage your disk. Everything else is incidental or can
be/is handled by another product or even application software.

TD> was virtually bullet-proof> or we're toast, IMO. What's the big
TD> hurry anyway...as the days go by, the reports of NT <which I feel
TD> isn't really going to go head-to-head with 2.1> lead me to believe
TD> that NT's going to have a lot of problems if they ship it like this.

IBM really needs to release at COMDEX- first off it'll let them show an
almost completely redone version just over a year after initial release-
that shows commitment. Next it'll be a kick in the butt to NT, since
it'll still be vaporware while IBM is passing out copies of 2.1.
Finally, the press coverage at COMDEX would be a major boost. Especially
if IBM pushes the Windows 3.1 emulation.

TD> Wow, imagine if both MS =and= IBM release versions at the same time
TD> with too many bugs!

2.1 has VERY few bugs now. Particularly compared to 2.0. I agree that it
could be more end-user friendly (vs power-user friendly), but that may
not happen for awhile. Requires a lot of rewriting- most documentation.
