Due to a huge number of these happening, I would like to formally
request a new feature be added to the next version of Listserv.
Problem:
A method of mailbombing in which a person's address is faked and
is subscribed to a large number of lists is becomming common. This
causes
* the targeted person's email address to be mailbombed, at a minimum
with confirmation messages, and at worst, with actual posts from
the lists.
* an above average number of people sending requests to unsubscribe
to a list address (rather than the server) since they didn't
necessarily know it is a Listserv list that they are subscribed to.
* an increased amount of work by the list owners in removing these
people.
* an increased amount of work by the Listserv maintainers in
removing the targetted address from all lists on that server.
people.
What is wanted:
Listserv has implemented and "anti-spam" feature in which the server
looks for the same message which is sent to multiple lists. I would
like to see the same type of checking implemented when an address
is subscribed to multiple lists within a set amuont of time.
Off the top of my head, I would suggest that good defaults would be
to reject subscription to more than 5 lists within 24 hours. To be
truely effective, this would *not* notify the person of the rejection
more than 1 time.
Eric: is this possible?
Humbly submitted,
