             Proposal For a Vegan/Vegetarian Mailing List

        Veganism is the practice of eating only plant products.
        People do it for a variety of reasons such as improved
        health, out of concern for the environment, politics etc.

        As such, there is always a lot to talk about and a lot
        to learn.

        Since Vegans & Vegetarians are scattered across the country
        I would like to provide a forum ( via listserv if possible,
        but any software is fine ) for Vegans And Vegetarians to
        communicate with each other.

        While other such lists exist they have been beset with
        problems related to censorship and erratic policy.

        My list would about " anything goes"  in that anyone could
        politely express any opinion they have without fear of being
        censored or banned from the list.  I would act as a moderator
        only in extreme situations.

        My list would be out about free, open, and friendly discourse
        with all kinds of people being welcome to participate.

        Below is the FAQ/welcome message I plan to use if you would
        like a better idea of what the group is about.

This list is a forum for discussing any issue directly related to
veganism or vegetarianism in a polite, friendly atmosphere.  It is
expected that all posts should be supportive of veganism or
vegetarianism.




                      2. Rules Of Conduct And Posting

About the only thing that most of us as have in common as veg*ns is
our dietary commitment.  We are a diverse group in our religion,
political views, in our cultures, and life experience.  It is
important to remember this when posting and not to get upset when we
encounter viewpoints which we find disturbing.


Beyond that, just follow these basic rules when writing posts:

        2. No Harshly Toned Posts.

        3. Posted Topics Should Be *Directly* Related To Veg*ism.

        4. Post In Plain Text & In English Only.

        5. No Commercial Advertisements.

        6. No Cross-Posting.

When you have subscribed to the list and received an acknowledgment,
simply email your message to

and it will be forwarded to all subscribers of the list.



                       6. The Moderation Policy
                      *************************

The moderation policy is " Hands Off".  People are free to whatever
opinions they like.  The moderator will only take action as the
moderator when s/he feels a poster has a willful disregard for the
spirit of politely exchanging views in the spirit of friendship
( the rules posted in section 2 ).  All action taken as the moderator
whether they be private e-mailings or posts will have "MODERATOR" typed
in the subject heading.
