With the help of our web expert, we did a couple of additional tweaks. As
I think Pete pointed out, a link showed "Log Out" even when you were
logged out; it now reflects the current state of affairs. Not perfectly,
there seems to be a time lag sometimes, but awfully close. Here's the code
(again, mostly stolen from Paul Russell). What I wish: a couple of archive
related pages don't show sub-top-banner.  But it's already helped me debug
with a client. Here's the page to see how it looks:
