Older Listserv builds did ugly things to trailing blanks (like trimming them)
and embedded tabs (like expanding them).  This got ugly if the underlying
mail transport decided to use Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bitmime and thus
didn't use quoted-printable or base64.
