Thank you, Michael.

"sender=list" appears to have done the trick (messages are no longer
flagged as suspicious by hotmail).

Outlook uses that format to display messages which have Sender:
headers.  LISTSERV puts the poster's name/email in a Sender: header.
You may be out of luck.
