I've had nothing but success using Mozilla Thunderbird with LISTSERV MIME DIGEST:

1) the digest is displayed in its entirety (visually a single mail)

2) it also has each individual message as a clickable attachment, along with a ToC

Others have had indeterminant and occasional problems with Google Mail (MIME DIGEST); then I recommend
individual emails (SET MAIL) with filtered labels.
