I entered the previous discussion because I run a very similar Solaris/14.3 system and I could not duplicate the problem Alex was having. What Alex reported was that he was getting error messages that had bad MIME boundaries so that the message appeared blank to the recipient and came from "owner-listserv@..." rather than from "listserv@..."

I have now received an error message from my Linux2.6/14.4 system that shows exactly the same problems Alex reported. The message with all of its headers is shown below.

I've reached these conclusions:

1) There is still a bug somewhere in the LISTSERV code that generates inconsistent MIME boundaries. This code also generates the "From: owner-listserv@..." line.

2) This code is not used much. Most errors are sent by the code that generates "From: listserv@..." messages and these have correct MIME boundaries. But there are still some situations in which the bad code is used.

3) Alex's problem was caused by error messages being generated by the wrong code. The fix sent most error messages to the right code but did nothing about the underlying bug.

I do remember seeing blank error messages before; this is not the first one. But they are rare and the errors they report are not important errors. I'm not interested in doing anything to fix this problem on my current system, but I'd like to have it fixed in the next release.
