There are 3 possibilities:
1) companyname.com is used for other email addresses (e.g. [log in to unmask] is a valid address), and companyname.com is not the same server as www.companyname.com. This is the most likely case. You will have to set up a forwarding reference in the companyname.com server to forward mail sent to [log in to unmask] to forward to [log in to unmask] Most mainstream mail servers have this feature.

2) companyname.com is not used for other email addresses. Create an MX record in your external (Internet POP) DNS server to redirect mail sent to companyname.com to www.companyname.com. Then go to 3) below.

3)companyname.com and www.companyname.com are the same server. In the LISTSERV site configuration, identify companyname.com as an alias for www.companyname.com.

This is an open-ended question e.g.,

does email (not telnet, nor ftp) to [log in to unmask]
[successfully] go to the same machine[s] as [log in to unmask]

If not, you've got many more problems to resolve.
