I got this from one of my list owners:
 
I've noticed that the standard listserv introductory message for a list
that archives messages tells the new client how to ask for an index and
how to get individual files.  unfortunately, the retrieval part is wrong
in telling you to use "GET LISTNAME filetype" instead of what works,
which is "GET filename filetype".
