I would definitely be interested if you get this to work, as to how you go
about it. My infrastructure is a little different but conceptually it is
pretty close. What portal is Temple rolling out?

Subject: Integrating Listserv with a web portal

Several of my colleagues are in the final stages of deploying a new
university web portal for students, faculty, and staff. At this time,
my only involvement in this portal deployment project is to ensure
that the data on our new portal server complex is backed up. I am
also one of the guinea pigs who is testing this new portal.

This portal is based on Oracle technology. A lot of effort has been
invested in integrating this new portal with our email servers
(Mirapoint) and our course-web server (Blackboard), but nothing has
been done with regard to blending in Listserv. With that in mind, I
proposed to the DBA who is in charge of the data integration aspect
of this portal project that we should have a tab that identifies the
Listserv lists to which each portal user is subscribed. Of course,
this would cover only the lists on our Listserv.

The response to my idea was positive, but with one caveat. I would
need to provide a realtime feed of the data to the portal. We are
running Listserv 14.3 with Sendmail under Red Hat Linux. This new
portal system relies on our university-wide LDAP database for
subscriber information. Our LDAP server farm uses iPlanet on Solaris
9. I could write a quick perl script to batch the data to the portal,
but that would not be acceptable, given the realtime requirement.
This data sharing would only need to be read by our portal, at least
not for now. I want to have a portal tab point that lists out each
list that a given portal user is subscribed to. Each item in this
list would be a URL to each list's corresponding web site. All of our
Listserv lists are set up such that their postings are archived. I
could write a quick perl script to batch the data to the portal, but
that would not be acceptable, given the realtime requirement.

Does anyone here on LSTSRV-L have any suggestions on how I could
implement a realtime feed for such a project? Any and all suggestions
are welcome and appreciated.
