Thanks to Peter Weiss for the reminder to send to our list members about
summer vacations. I have another problem along the same lines that I'm
sure other list-owners have had too:
_I'm_ going on vacation for 3 weeks, and the most logical person to take
over while I'm gone will be unavailable too during most of that time :-(.
So I could try to recruit another temporary and trusted owner for that
time period, make up suitable instuctions, etc. (and I may try and do so
anyway). However, I have two questions related to the possibility of
leaving the list "unattended" instead:
1. Is setting "Errors-To= None" during that time a reasonable way to
handle this? What happens to all those error messages (I would
estimate 2000+ messages during the 3 weeks, allowing for the
accumulation effect of problem addresses not being deleted)? Is
there any reason _not_ to do this? What I absolutely do not want to
have happen is anything ending up at the postmaster's address,
especially large volumes of error messages. That will wear out our
welcome _really_ quickly.
2. Are there any other adverse effects of leaving a list unattended
for this period of time?
Thanks.
