You may think this inefficient, but there are several instances on SPAM-L
of massive site hits (obviously by an automatic script of some kind) of
this very thing happening.

If your members want protection, do what they want.  My lists are all set
Review= Owner.  Anyone that wants the list needs to request it from me and
I'll want to know why.
