describes (yet again) the problem users have when they send mail
from an address of the form [log in to unmask]
OK. I concede. You've finally convinced me. For years now, people
have been telling me that I'm subscribed to too many lists. Ok. I
believe them now. This has got to be the third time this topic has
come up in as many months on as many lists. Sheesh.
Take a look at the LMAIL-L archives from last month. I think it was
also brought up on NODMGT-L two months ago. Basically, there's
nothing you can do. If people are going to send mail from that kind
of address, they're outta luck.
>I am sure this problem has been discussed in the past
Oooppps. Sorry. Guess I didn't read enough of your note.

>"addressed" properly.
"Addressed properly" ??!!!??? Common. Gimme a break! :-)
Changing the routing isn't going to help unless you are the one sending
out addresses of the form [log in to unmask] If that's the case, then
you should strongly encourage (Hmm. "force" might be too strong a word.
But not by much.) your users to send their mail with fully-qualified
domain names.
If you aren't the one sending out the bogus .BITNET addresses, then it
won't help to change the routing tables in your mailer.

Hope the above doesn't sound too much like a flame.
