Assuming that you mean getting a list from LISTSERV that indicates if
a list exists on a specific topic--
 
LIST GLOBAL /search-parameters
 
(where search-parameters could be, as in your example, "sports" or
"ing"--without the quotes, of course) should do the job for you.
 
Be sure you send it to [log in to unmask], not to the list.
