If you were trying to subscribe yourself to a list, I have been told that
you recieve neither the welcome message nor any automatically generatied
listserv message generated from the listserv account at the sight of your
list.

When I was setting up my list, I first subscribed myself, and then
discovered that I was added quietly.  I sent a message to the list server
maintainer and he informed me that listserv is smart enough to know that
it doesn't need to send the list owner a welcome message or an
automatically generated listserver message.
