RSS is an XML based (that means WWW is also involved) method of delivering at
minimum a 'Table of Contents' page with clickable links to messages/articles,
and in some cases the full text of the message/article.  Since the route is
essentially HTTP, it avoids all the problems of spam-laden email, filters,
slow delivery, etc.  Also since it is 'pull' technology (you configure your
RSS reader pgm to poll for new data at your choice of interval) it is
essentially spam-free (although not necessarily advertising free...)
