Revised LISTSERV forum <LSTSRV-L@DEARN> |
I was poking through the TOOLS filelist and noticed that LDBASE.COM (the Vax
version of the database exec for LISTSERV) was not present. Since we finally
got our new Vax 8800 to stay up for periods longer than 15 minutes (bleh --
what a fido VMS is after something as elegant as CMS and REXX), I needed to
get something going to allow access to BITNET information.
Thus, I am announcing the availability of my version of LDBASE.COM from
[log in to unmask] It invokes your favorite editor to create a file of commands
and then ships them off to the nearest LISTSERV (indicated by changing two
variables inside the DCL proc) using your local "send files" command.
I chose the file method because there is a very serious bug in the firmware
for the BI-bus bisync ports that causes them to receive and transmit files
correctly, but it drops carrier, resets the line, and must do a full RSCS
START before sending or receiving more than one message OR before sending the
first file in a group. DEC has promised us a fix Real Soon Now, but I'll
believe that when I see it. After all, these are the people that think VMS is
really neat...sigh.
Anyway, get it (or AFD it) and use it in good health. If you find problems or
bugs, please let me know so I can correct them.
Oh, yeah -- file is stored as LDBASE COM in filelist TOOLS.
