We are about to start beta-testing support for mysql and unixODBC in the
unix version of LISTSERV. Theoretically, any database for which there is
a unixODBC driver could be supported, but initially our goal is to
provide full support for mysql only (this can then be extended to other
databases in future versions, after successful testing). This is similar
to our policy for ODBC on Windows, where you can theoretically use a text
file or Excel 4.0 spreadsheet as a database, but that does not mean we
necessarily support these, erm, databases.
So far, our internal tests have gone very smoothly, better than when we
added support for mysql via ODBC on Windows. The main difficulty is to
install and configure the mysql driver for unixODBC. We found the
instructions to be lacking, so we will be writing our own. It is not
difficult once you get past the point where unixODBC refers you to your
driver documentation while myODBC refers you to your provider
documentation :-) Many Linux distributions seem to be coming with
unixODBC pre-installed, and perhaps in the future myODBC will also be
pre-installed.
Anyway, we are looking for customers interested in testing this new
functionality. You must be running 14.4 under Linux. Please apply to me
privately or through the list if you prefer.
Eric
PS: All the functionality in the DomainKeys beta will be included in this
new beta.
