Applies to LISTSERV sites running the following versions of F-Secure
Anti-Virus:
- F-Secure Anti-Virus for Workstations v. 5.43 and earlier
- F-Secure Anti-Virus for Windows Servers v. 5.50 and earlier
- F-Secure Anti-Virus for Servers (Linux) v. 4.63 and earlier
Some L-Soft customers using F-Secure Anti-Virus on both Windows and
Linux have recently noted a problem getting their virus signature
updates from the F-Secure update site.
F-Secure addresses this problem on their website at
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/corporate/supportissue/general/general-issue-2005081000.shtml
and provides hotfixes on that page. The basic problem statement is as follows:
>The F-Secure Anti-Virus product family supports several methods to
>receive virus definition database updates. The old http-based method
>(the getdbhtp-tool) is gradually phased out and replaced by the more
>modern Automatic Update Agent (based on BackWeb technology).
>
>All versions of the getdbhtp-tools shipped before August 2005 have a
>limitation preventing them from handling the constantly growing
>database describing malware of different kinds. F-Secure Corporation
>recommends all users of F-Secure Anti-Virus products to check if
>they are affected and upgrade to a later version, if available, or
>apply the appropriate hotfix.
The hotfixes are available from the page linked above. Please be
sure to download the appropriate hotfix for the FSAV version you are running.
Sincerely,
Nathan Brindle
