I'm assuming you mean "AOL 6.0"?
At the risk of sounding facetious, have you considered using a less
broken E-mail reading program?
"Arrows" sounds like a charset issue, or possibly confusion of tab characters
during cut-and-paste. "erroneous spaces" tends to reinforce my suspicion
that the AOL 6.0 message composition feature is broken.
In any case, this sounds like an issue for the AOL Help Desk...
