Greetings,
I'm in the process of trying to bring up DBMS support with Listserv
1.8d running on an RS/6000, running AIX 4.3. The oracle database I need
to access is on a sun box running Solaris. When I look at the developers
guide, it seems to say that I need to install the AIX-OCI package for
listserv, and then to get the Oracle 8 client files, such as SQLNet on my
AIX box. I came across a document that also said the following:
"Kits with the designation "-OCI" require that Oracle be installed and
running on the machine you intend to install LISTSERV on. If you install
an -OCI kit on a machine that does not have Oracle installed, LISTSERV
will not start."
I don't want to have to install all of Oracle on my AIX box, especially
since the database I need to access is on the Sun box. I'm hoping that
someone might have the answers to these questions:
1) can I just install the client files on the AIX box and be able to
access the Oracle database on the Sun box?
2) If I don't need everything in Oracle, is there a specific list of
client files and things that need to be installed, and maybe a procedure
for their installation?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
