This is a relic of the hardcopy terminal days. The @ meant delete or
ignore the previous character which is what you're seeing. Add the
following line to your PROFILE EXEC file to tell the system not to
do this:
'TERMINAL CHARDEL OFF'
While you're at it, you might also add:
'TERMINAL ESCAPE OFF'
so you can use the " on the command line also.
