Regardless of the technical details, I think something in the form

LISTS.domain.org

would be preferrable.  This allows you to easily separate the traffic for various purposes (anti-spam, blacklisting, load balancing), even if not right now e.g., LISTS.domain.org might MX to domain.org (if that is the A record).

Just my 2 bits.
