Here's a DIGEST= definition from one of our lists that seems to work:

* Digest= YES,same,DAILY,16:00,SIZE(1000)

the size parm is the fifth operand.  Show us yours.

What version of LISTSERV are you operating under?

I wonder if some line counting anomaly occurs when multipart/alternative 
is involved?
