I think you might be using some variety of Unix. In this case, there’s two ways you can install LISTSERV.

If you’re using the .bin file, then that file isn’t actually intended to be extracted. It’s an executable, and you would use it to install LISTSERV using the instructions at http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/16.0/install/LISTSERV16.0_InstallManual_UNIXSimplified.htm <http://www.lsoft.com/resources/manuals-download.asp?id=114&format=HTML> , rather than running some uncompression utility on it.

If you’re using the .tar.Z files, then you should be able to extract them using the uncompress and tar commands as described at http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/16.0/install/LISTSERV16.0_InstallManual_UNIX.htm#_Toc290567944 <http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/16.0/install/LISTSERV16.0_InstallManual_UNIX.htm#_Toc290567944> . If this isn’t working, then can you give the exact commands you’re using to extract the files, and the errors that are resulting?
