To the (several) folks who have mentioned ethics and policy as
issues in editing log files: I'm curious what you do if someone
posts, e.g. a large uuencoded picture of their kids, decidedly
off topic.  It's something we've cleaned up half a dozen times
in the last couple of years.  When it doubles or triples the
size of the typical log, it seems worth doing--people who order
the log later probably don't want the material.  Furthermore,
we charge for disk space, so list owners have some motivation
to keep their minidisks (we're VM) to a reasonable size.  On a
small disk a triple-normal log on a low-traffic list can put
a real kink in keeping the usual number of back logs online.
