I too have to agree with Michael. Listserv is an important part of this
network. A two step process of removing all nodes from the dist backbone
which do not wish to participate (either implicitly by not being at the
'current' level or explicitly by request) followed by adding all the
new nodes which do wish to participate should go far towards getting us
by this stumbling block.
