If I understand your question, the answer is:

you do not [selectively digest].

If you want to be selective, you need to do three things, and none
involve digests:

1) establish the LISTSERV(R) TOPICS feature

2) subscribers SET their topical interests

3) contributors (or moderators) post with the predefined topics
