The STATS command is pretty much useless nowadays and will be replaced by
a new STATS  command when the accounting facility  is implemented. You're
not losing much by not having it in  your version. It made a lot of sense
in the  BITNET days (and  had a lot more  info to report).  Nowadays it's
just a list of the people who  posted to your list, with the total number
of postings since the list was created.
