The same thing happened to me.  It was a case of "ships passing in the
night."
 
(1)  Day 1.  VERS9107 arrives and I generate a new BITEARN NODES
     but do not put it on the mini-disk visible to LISTSERV.
 
(2)  Day 2.  LISTSERV 1.7a arrives causing a re-build of the
     BITEARN NODES indices.
 
(3)  Day 3.  I make the new BITEARN NODES visible to LISTSERV.
     I.e. copy BITEARN NODES A = = c (OLDD.
 
 
Note the OLDD option.  Since BITEARN NODES is older than the indices
LISTSERV doesn't see any reason to rebuild the indices.  So I
have a BITEARN NODES as of VERS 9107 and a set of indices built
for VERS9106.  Confusion reigns.
