I uninstalled, re-installed, and played around with it and I am able to send and get replies. Before I make this available to the public, are there any security issues I need to worry about? How exactly is mail handled when using SMTP from the listserv?

What happens if you send to: LISTSERV@your_host

If you get a response, then it sounds like your have sendmail alias issues.
