The most common causes of this are a) multiple subscriptions
under different addresses that are being forwarded to his new
address, or b) somewhere between you and him a marginal network
link is causing the delivery of the message to be incomplete,
thus the sending mail system is trying to deliver the mail
repeatedly, never getting the proper acknowledgement that the
mail *was* delivered, and keeps on trying until the message times
out or *does* get fully delivered.
 
If you've checked for option a, then it's likely to be the
latter, and there's basically nothing you can do about it other
than recommend the subscriber find a more reliable connection.
