HPO is the only solution to this problem. We run LISTSERV on Solaris 8, on a
Sun V480 with 2-900 Mhz processors and 4 GB of memory. We tried to upgrade
from 1.8d Classic to 1.8e Classic last fall and backed out the upgrade after
two hours. We have approximately 20,000 lists on the server, and the 'query *'
command was taking approximately 45 minutes to complete. After we licensed
HPO, we upgraded from 1.8d to 1.8e. Now, the 'query *' command completes in
10-30 seconds. The delay is noticeable, but acceptable.
